Privacy Policy

Our Core Promise
ToolHive processes everything in your browser. All tool operations — PDF editing, resume building, QR code generation, password creation, data conversion, color palette generation, text diffing, markdown editing, invoice creation, and timezone conversion — happen entirely on your device. We never upload, store, or transmit your files or data to any server.
This is the fundamental design principle of ToolHive. Every tool is a static, client-side web application that requires no backend. Your data stays yours.
Information We Collect
What We Collect
We do not collect any personal information. We do not use cookies, fingerprinting, or any form of user tracking. We do not have accounts, registration, or any mechanism to identify individual users.
What Third Parties Collect
ToolHive displays advertisements via EthicalAds and Google AdSense. These ad networks may collect limited, anonymized data for ad serving purposes:
- EthicalAds — May collect anonymized impression and click data to report to advertisers. They do not use cookies for tracking and their ads are privacy-respecting by design.
- Google AdSense — May use cookies and web beacons to serve personalized ads based on your browsing activity across sites that use Google's ad services. The data collected is handled in accordance with Google's privacy policy.
- Microsoft Clarity — We use Clarity to understand how visitors use the site (e.g., clicks, scrolling, and anonymized session insights). Clarity respects Google Consent Mode: it only collects data where analytics consent has been granted. See Microsoft's Clarity terms and privacy statement.
- We configure our Content Security Policy (CSP) to restrict ad network scripts to only the specific domains needed for ad delivery (
pagead2.googlesyndication.comfor AdSense). - Our Service Worker explicitly prevents caching of any ad-related content, ensuring ad impressions are always counted accurately and no ad data persists locally.
You can learn more about these services' privacy practices:
Data Processing
All data processing occurs locally in your browser using standard web APIs such as Canvas, Web Workers, and typed arrays. No data is sent over the network for processing. This means:
- Your PDF files never leave your device
- Your resume data is never uploaded
- Your passwords are generated locally and never transmitted
- Your JSON/CSV/YAML data never touches a server
- Your text comparisons stay in your browser
Cookies
ToolHive does not set any cookies. We do not use session cookies, persistent cookies, or any form of browser storage for tracking or analytics purposes. The only local storage used is your browser's built-in localStorage API, which some tools use to save your preferences (e.g., selected options, history) locally on your device — this data never leaves your computer.
Advertising
ToolHive displays advertisements to help cover operating costs. We use a combination of ad networks:
- EthicalAds — A privacy-first ad network that uses no cookies or behavioral tracking. Ads are text/image only with no popups, no auto-play videos, and no cross-site tracking.
- Google AdSense — A contextual and interest-based ad network. Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits and browsing interests. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings page.
We restrict all ad network scripts through our Content Security Policy to ensure only approved domains can serve content. Your use of the tool features is never affected by ad personalization — all tools remain fully functional regardless of ad preferences.
Consent & Your Advertising Choices
When required by law (visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland), ToolHive asks for your consent before serving personalized ads and before collecting analytics. We use Google's certified consent management platform (AdSense "Privacy & messaging", integrated with the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework) together with Google Consent Mode v2 to collect and honor your choices on every page.
- If you consent — you may see personalized ads, and analytics and session insights may be collected to improve the site.
- If you don't consent — you may still see non-personalized (contextual) ads, and no analytics or session recording will be enabled. All tools remain fully functional either way.
You can change your choices at any time using the privacy options in the consent prompt, by clearing your browser cookies, or via Google's Ads Settings. Consent handling follows Google's EU User Consent Policy. You can also learn more about how Google uses data when you use our partners' sites.
Third-Party Links
ToolHive may contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these websites. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before engaging with them.
Children's Privacy (COPPA)
ToolHive does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. Our services are directed at developers, designers, and professionals of working age.
Your Rights (GDPR & CCPA)
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), you have the right to:
- Know what data is collected (we collect none)
- Access your data (there is none to access)
- Delete your data (there is nothing to delete — clear your browser cache to remove any local preferences)
- Opt out of data collection (it's already opt-out by design — we collect nothing)
Since ToolHive collects no personal data, there is no data to access, modify, or delete on our end. Your local preferences stored in localStorage can be cleared through your browser settings at any time.
Security
We take security seriously:
- All pages are served over HTTPS (enforced by Cloudflare)
- We use strict Content Security Policy (CSP) headers to prevent XSS and data injection attacks
- All external scripts are loaded with Subresource Integrity (SRI) hashes where applicable
- We set secure HTTP headers (HSTS, X-Frame-Options, Permissions-Policy) to protect against common web vulnerabilities
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
